Mica is a mineral name given to a collection of hydrous potassium, aluminum, silicate minerals that are physically and chemically similar. They are all silicate minerals, known as sheet silicates because they form in distinct layers. Among the most important rock-forming minerals, micas are located in all 3 foremost rock types – igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.
Micas are fairly light and relatively soft, and the sheets and flakes of mica are flexible. Mica retains its elasticity and toughness even at high temperatures, which is why Mica is best to be used in conditions with extreme humidity and temperatures. The mineral Mica has an absorption range of 2%-5%. Its refractive index is average with a visible spectrum of 1.6.
